Types of Vascular Anomalies
Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs)
An arteriovenous malformation occurs when both the veins and arteries have formed incorrectly.
Hemangiomas
This is the most common vascular anomaly, occurring in a surprising
5-10% of all infants. This benign tumor is an excessive growth of
endothelial cells.
Capillary Malformations
Capillary malformations, often called port wine stains, are flat dark
red malformations that occur on the surface of the skin.
Venous Malformations
A venous malformation occurs when the veins of the body have formed incorrectly.
Lymphatic Malformations
When the lymphatic system forms improperly, extra blood and body fluids can not drain back into the bloodstream.
Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS)
Klippel Trenaunay is a combined capillary/lymphatic/venous malformation.
